For a  list of additional video recordings produced by Ramsey Library for a variety of campus events, see:  UNCA AUDIO AND VIDEO  and  VIDEO FILMED FOR ASHEVILLE EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION (AET) BY UNCA. [This list includes video shot at UNCA on a variety of topics and produced for distribution on the Asheville Educational Television (AET) channel.]

Special Collections & University Archives hold very few motion picture films and only a handful of video cassettes and  DVD-formatted video and audio material.

This is not a specific genre of work, but a collection of unrelated materials that are largely film-based, audio, and video-based materials, some of which are accompanied by manuscript and photographic donations.  The following list is not comprehensive for all holdings, but pulls from our holdings items that are noteworthy.

One remarkable holding is the original Paramount film Conquest of Canaan, filmed in Asheville, North Carolina in 1921.  For many years the film was listed as "lost." A copy was eventually found in Russia where the original sub-titles had been translated into Russian and the film re-mastered into a short form.

Film-production is a growing industry in Western North Carolina. The LIST OF FILMS SHOT IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, either entirely or partially,  include many feature films.

Roger Howell's " Memory Collection"  [AV-music-2008.1.1]
A collection of tunes on DVD disc recorded by Roger Howell in October of 2007 in his studio on Banjo Branch, in Madison County, near Mars Hill, N.C. These tunes represent a range of musical repertoires. As interpreted by Roger Howell, the tunes include his version, those of other musicians, and arrangements that are unique to the particular repertoire. Many of the tunes are rare and have seldom been heard or recorded in any formal manner. Howell notes that the unique nature of this music prompted him to record this collection and to make it available to the public through several repositories in North Carolina, including UNCA's Special Collections.
