Ramsey Library Special Collections

Film,  Video, & Music Recordings

Special Collections & University Archives hold very few motion picture films and only a handful of video cassettes and  DVD formatted video and audio material.

This is not a specific genre of work, but a collection of unrelated materials that are largely film-based, audio, and video-based materials, some of which are accompanied by manuscript and photographic donations.  The following list is not comprehensive for all holdings, but pulls from our holdings items that are noteworthy.

One remarkable holding is the original Paramount film Conquest of Canaan, filmed in Asheville, North Carolina in 1921.  For many years the film was listed as "lost." A copy was eventually found in Russia where the original sub-titles had been translated into Russian and the film re-mastered into a short form.

Film-production is a growing industry in Western North Carolina. The LIST OF FILMS SHOT IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, either entirely or partially,  include many feature films.
