! TO FURTHER REFINE YOUR
SEARCH USE THE CUSTOM SEARCH ABOVE. "... it is no less just to remember the other, the other others and the
others in oneself, and that the other peoples could say the same thing --
in another way. And that tout autre est tout autre, ... every other
is every others other, is altogether other." Jacques
Derrida, Archive Fever (1996)
Family and Personal Papers comprise one of the largest of the collections
in most Archives and Special Collections. UNCA's holdings are no
exception. We hold many remembrances that help us to remember who we
were and who we are. Family and personal papers come in many
formats, letters, diaries, business records, poetry, and other textual
formats. It might be argued that the collections of photographic
materials from families can tell us as much or more about who these
families and individuals were. |

Oral History is a kind of personal
papers collection -- in oral form. UNCA Special Collections holds over 300
oral histories. The Dorothy Joynes collection of
"Voices of
Ashevile" is one of the largest of the collections and one of the most
interesting in its attempt to explore attitudinal change over the years in
Asheville and the region. |
