Cherokee Legends, Folk Life, and Celtic Legends: An Exhibit of Heritage


About the artist, Gina Canter

L. Gina Canter, an artist of Cherokee and Scots-Irish descent, resides in Barnardsville, North Carolina. Working primarily in acrylic, oil, and pencil, she strives to preserve and honor the memory of her ancestors as well as the Appalachian heritage of the past 200 years.

Her ongoing works include three distinct series:

The Cherokee Legendary Series includes paintings of area sites in North Carolina, such as the Kituhwa mound in Bryson city, Paint Rock in Hot Springs, and Judaculla Rock near Cullowhee.

Her Folk Life series commemorates music, dance, and way of life of the Appalachian mountain past in paintings and photography.

Her upcoming third series includes paintings of Celtic Legends

To celebrate this exhibition, a reception for the artist and slide presentation was held Friday, August 29, 1997, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
