Katherine Rozycki
Dim Sum: A Sampling of Asian Life

Rozycki's Statement:

My photographs, taken over the course of four months, capture the diversity of experience that occurs while traveling or studying abroad.  I spent this past fall semester living in Hong Kong and China, generously made available through UNC Asheville's Study Abroad Office.

The experience profoundly changed me, and I left with the charge to inspire my peers to also take advantage of the many opportunities available while attending school here.  As the first UNCA student to participate in a direct exchange with City University of Hong Kong, I also feel it is particularly important for students to consider studying in Asia, a location that less than 1% of American college students choose as a destination.

Though I am not an artist by any means, I feel like my photographs creatively capture the interesting, varied types of people one might encounter when they reach beyond their borders.  The vibrancy of Asian locals is one of the most significant memories of my travels, and I hope my photography depicts this and, at best, reaches other students who might be moved to pursue similar opportunities.
