Mr. and Mrs. K. W. Thorn are at the Inn for the week-end from Johnson City, where Mr. Thorn is located in the auditing department of the C. C. & 0. Ry.

Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Mixson, of Charleston, S. C., arrived at the Inn on Thursday and expect.to spend sometime herb. Mr. Mixson is general manager of the Mixson Seed Co., of Charleston.

One of the most exciting three-somes at medal play, of the early season, took place Saturday morning, Messrs. Smith, Knowles and Francis being the contestants. Stroke by stroke and hole by hole found the players very evenly matched, Mr. Smith, at the turn, leading with Mr. Francis the low man; then Mr. Knowles had the honor, and so the match was fought till the ninth hole, where the score read: Francis 48, Smith 50, Knowles 51.

Messrs. R. F. Brewer and V. E. Kent, of Johnson City, were at the Inn Tuesday.

Mrs Gilmore gave a driving party to several friends out over the highway and through the large apple orchards" on Wednesday.

Mr. W. J. Carraway and son, Ernest, of Savannah, Ga., are at the Inn for several days. Mr. Carraway is a prominent railroad man of Savannah.

Mr. E. Thomason and family, of Chnr-lotte, N., spent last Sunday at the Inn. Mr. Thomason is Vice-president of the Piedmont & Northern Railway.

Among the recent arrivals at the Alta-pass Inn are: Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Steele, of Lenoir, N. C.; Mrs. W. H. Hughson, Morganton, N. C.; Miss Margaret Schew-man, Waterbury, Conn.; David H. Tap-pan, Spruce Pine, N. C.; Miss Sarah Cansler, Little Switzerland, N. C.: Miss Dorothy Quintard, Washington; I. T. Williams,. Huntdale, N. C.

Mr. 0. B. Foster, of Valdosta, Ga., is spending his vacation at the Inn.

Espiscopal services conducted by Rev. A, B. Hunter,. of Raleigh, N. C., were held at the Inn last Sunday evening.

Mrs. Henry A. Rhyne, of Mt. Holly, N. C., accompanied by Miss Deyce, of  Statesville, N. C., are at the Inn for a lengthy stay.

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. R. Turpin, Miss Frances Turpin and Master Walter Turpin, Jr., of Macon, Ga., arrived last Sunday to spend several days at the Inn.

Dr. and Mrs. James M. Parrott and Mr. 0. B. Foster drove to Linville Falls last Thursday and were delighted with the scenery and the trip.

Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Patillo, who have been spending several weeks at the Inn,  left last Tuesday for their home in Atlanta .They were loath to leave and in fact had only expected to spend two weeks when coming, but kept postponing , from day to day until their visit covered over five weeks. They made many friends here who regretted to see them leave.

Miss Sara Cansler and Miss Dorothy Quintard were out horseback riding from Little Switzerland last Monday and were caught in a sudden shower and soaked "thru and thru", taking refuge at Alta-pass Inn, drying themselves out and enjoying luncheon.

Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Ewert, of New York, who have been spending sometime at the Inn, left Thursday for Columbus, Ohio, to visit his mother. From there they will return to their home. Mr. Ewert is a most congenial gentleman and made many friends while here. He is with Blair & Co., bankers, of New York.

Mr. J. H. Randolph; who has been spending, sometime at the Inn, left for his home in Leesburg, Fla., on Thursday much regretting his call to business and having to give up play on the sporty golf course, where he has been from early morn to late at night.. Mr. Randolph made many friends while here, his jovial manner and wit keeping all in good cheer at all times.

J. P. McNair, of Aiken, S. C., was at the Inn last Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. W, H. Knowles, accompanied by .Mrs. M. . M. Nash and maid, together witn [sic] Master Billy Knowles, of Pensacola, Fla., arrived Wednesday and are comfortably domiciled in one of the cottages near the Inn.

Mr. W. F. Smith, of Bristol, has added considerable interest to the golfing enthusiasts during the past week, his phenomenal long driving being quite an attraction, many gathering at the Tees to watch this left hand drive off.

Mr. W. H. Knowles, who has just arrived is an enthusiastic golfer, and has proven himself a very near relative of "Col. Bogey" and after he is more familiar with the course many expect he will lower the record already established by Mr. Francis.

Among many other attractions bowling still holds its popularity. It is quite an incident to see the smartly dressed visitors in the club house after dinner in pleasant rivalry at the bowling alleys. Competition has been quite keen between the respective sides chosen by Mrs. Carey and Mrs. Gilmore, and at this time honors are evenly divided.
