Record Series Description:  CMC kept detailed membership records from original incorporation in 1923 to the present.  These are important CMC records and have extremely high value since they list the names of those individuals who were part of the proceedings of CMC throughout its history.  Summary of records:

CMC 2002.2.3.	1	CMC Membership Record Books:  As club historian, Jerome Dykeman took on the task of organizing CMC records in the 1950s and 1960s.  CMC membership records were one of the important collections he organized.  He created 2 volumes that contain an outstanding summary of CMC members from the 1920s through the 1960s.  It is possible that Eloise Whitson kept these books updated through the 1970s.  The two books list the CMC member’s name, address, phone number, occupation, CMC activities, CMC offices held, and CMC hikes led.  For the more prominent members, a narrative is written that describes that member and his/her accomplishment in more detail.   Book 1 contains listings A-K; Book 2 contains L-Z.  In the back of book 2 is a "misc" section which includes a list of officers from 1932 to 1970.  Also listed are other council members, committee appointments, membership summaries, and revenues.
	2	CMC Former Members Book:  This book has a similar format to the CMC Membership Record Books and was likely compiled by Jerome Dykeman.  It lists individuals that were no longer members due to resignation, death, etc.  (E.g. has George Masa with a short narrative including his birth and death dates)
	3	CMC Cabin Guest Book:  During parts of CMC history and ending in the 1970s, CMC rented from the U.S. Forest Service one or more cabins for its members and guests to use.   The book lists who stayed at the "Big Ivy Lodge" and when.  It includes remarks by the guests.  The first entry is April 22, 1962; the last is April 6, 1974.  Historical Note:  the brown colored guest book was purchased by Jerome Dykeman and is inscribed “originally purchased for the Vanderbilt Mansion some years ago.”  There is also a small green notebook marked "CMC Big Ivy Cabin Reservations for Over-night."  It contains four loose notes, but the rest of the book is blank.
	4	Membership Cards:  Index cards that list the name and address of CMC members.  There is a plastic index file box, likely created by Eloise Whitson, and a metal file box.  With the advent of computers, this information was transferred into a membership database and maintained there.
	5	Membership Lists:  CMC maintained lists of its membership throughout its history.  A purpose was to have a list of its members to mail Hiking Schedules, the CMC Let’s Go publication, and miscellaneous announcements.  Many of these lists were also sent out annually to CMC members as an attachment to one of the CMC Let’s Go publications.  There are many duplicates.  The lists are grouped as follows:  a. 1920; 1923; 1931; 1934; 1936-39; 1941; 1948-49; 1951; 1953-58; no date-2.  b. 1960-61; 1963-66; 1968-72; 1974-75; 1977-79; 1982-89.  c. 1990-97; no date-2.  d. Miscellaneous.  Club rules; hiking schedules;  hiking trail lists; 3 letters dated 1920.
	6	New Member Forms:  A CMC applicant was required to fill out a form containing their information and sponsorship of a CMC member.  These are arranged by date, from 1947 to 1979.
	7	Four carbon copies of letters to new members informing them of their acceptance into CMC.  One letter responding to a request for information about CMC.
	8	Miscellaneous "work" file.  Includes handwritten notes on members; lists of other hiking and trail clubs; letters requesting hike schedules.  Property inventory lists for 1940 & 1957.
	9	Carbon copies of letters sent to Daniels Graphics listing changes, additions, and deletions to address lists, 1969-72.  Blue spiral bound notebook marked "Additions, Changes, Deletions, 1973"
	10	"New Members" lists:  1967-68; 1970-72; 1975.
