| CMC 2002.2.9 | 1 | Newspaper clippings from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. Most appear to be from the Asheville Citizen and Times. There is one clipping from the New York Times dated March 15, 1942. One of the earliest clippings describes the organization of the Carolina Mountain Club with a handwritten date: "7/17/21." Other clippings note the establishment of the Appalachian trail, the death of George Masa--June, 1933, and general news about club activities. Most of these are hike announcements; they are undated but appear to be from the 1930s and 1940s. The book also contained thirty-one loose clippings, a typed sheet of "sing along" songs, and a photograph of "Eiler U. Larsen with one of his little friends," dated April 24, 1933. | |
