    "The Biltmore Estate Industries represent the work done by residents upon the Biltmore Estate in Western North Carolina. The Industries originated in simple forms of handiwork taught as part of the educational system established upon the Estate. A number of the boys and girls soon showed a marked capacity for woodworking and carving, and they now design and produce mot only such articles as book-racks, glove boxes, trays, and candlesticks [sic], but all kinds of furniture as well.
     Mrs. Vanderbilt, whose active interest and personal direction has brought these industrial matters to their present completeness, has also revived among the natives the manufacture of native tweeds. Natural dyes, used for coloring the wool, are derived from roots, barks, flowers, etc. The weaving is done by the women in their homes upon the crud looms that were once found ion every country cabin. The product of the loom is a distinctly local cloth, durable and attractive in appearance."
