Dear Mr. Seely,
It was awfully nice to see you again and to find you so cordial and interested and so much like you used to be. I’m glad you approve of my being here with Miss Vance and Miss Yale and I do believe we can work something out for all of us. I do feel such a responsibility for my dear little sons and it gives me a sense of peace to know you are believing in my ability and that I can come to you for advice.
No one can know who hasn’t lost a beloved companion just what the loneliness and heart hunger means. And looking back sometimes on our dear and happy hours together and knowing they’ll never come again. I’m very near to despair. But I have the boys and must carry on and perhaps there will come another sort of happiness in their affection and respect.
As always,
Lucy Scott Root
