Dear Mr. Seely,
It was kind of you to write the letter you did and all by hand, too. We both appreciate your interest in us and the kind things you have always done for us.
At last Dr. Jones is () to be encouraging about Herbie’s condition. He says he thinks Herbie is really () to get () –where – well. That’s another thing again. There is hope now that in another three () we’ll be out of the hospital, though he may continue the blood transfusions for some time. Herbie has had eleven and another one is scheduled for tomorrow. It’s been a long weary () but to wonderful to feel that it hasn’t been in vain.
The boys are fine and so husky. I’m pretty thin- down to ninety-eight pounds. But now that the load is li() at last, I’m sure I’ll soon be back to normal. Of course, we’ll be in debt the rest of our lives. But as long as there are two of us, we can manage somehow.
Jay Hawley came by to see us yesterday. It seems she has just been in Asheville and she tells me you are suffering from a sinus condition. Wish you’d come up and see our marvelous Dr. Warren Davis. Herbie had the same thing and Dr. Davis cleared it up very quickly. Everyone says he’s the best nose and throat man in the East- anyway he has our international reputation.
With our gratitude and affection.
Always,
Lucy Scott Root
