Dr. H. N. White: bhcP77.10.4.3.17
Dr. Herbert Nathaniel White was the son of the late Herbert and Mattie
White. He was born in Washington, D.C. He was reared amid ideals of honor, integrity,
education, and religion, stemming from his father.
A native of Asheville, North Carolina he received his secondary
education in Asheville, North Carolina, his college work at A and T College, Greensboro,
North Carolina; his M.D. Degree from Howard University, Washington D.C.
He practiced in Asheville as a gynecologist specialist for thirty-seven
years. Dr. White was a veteran of World War I, with the rank of first lieutenant. He was a
member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Asheville and for many years was senior warden.
Dr. White was a member of the Blue Ridge Medical and Dental Society,
the Old North State Medical Association, and the American Medical Association, also a
member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Ki Delta Nu Medical Fraternity.
Dr. White was one of the pioneer leaders in the Negro Boy Scouts of
this area.
Even with his busy professional demands, he found time to participate
in the NAACP and many other organizations.
Dr. Herbert N. White departed this life February 24, 1962. His
survivors are his wife Louise Martin White, and his daughter Mrs. Choguita White McGriff
of Atlanta, Georgia. |
