Remarks on back of picture: [Asheville State] "Summer School conducted by J. H. Michael in the Hill Street School under the auspicies [sic] of Winston-Salem Teachers College. This picture was taken 1923.  The summer school was founded in 1917 and Prof. Michael was its director until 1937.  He resigned after being in charge of the summer school for 20 years. Teachers came from all sections of the state and also from other states.  The summer school was state accredited. Credits earned counted toward certificate renewal and also toward college credit."
