Papa [Charles Thomas Howell] died in August, 1926.
Dr. Trent may have directed this band. He is the only man on the picture
without an instrument. I have just noticed this. Papa taught all brass,
wood wind and string instruments. Papa and two friends from Columbia, S.C., Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Jeffers, played classical music for dinner parties in the Grove Park section
during the mid 1900's. They also played at banquets and luncheons at the Langren
Hotel. Mrs. Jeffers played piano. Papa and Mr. Jeffers played the violin.
