Blomberg Letter / English Version 1 / literal

Dear Cousin

Your letter and the little bottle of medicine came into my possession quite some time ago and you will excuse my lack of gallantry in not answering for so long, telling you of the receipt of the bottle and to thank you for your well meant wishes, but neither my laziness in writing nor the lack of friendship to you or your father’s family, but my illness from which I am finding my way back and also my knowledge that it was my fault, because 14 days ago I visited a beautiful Opera in the local Opera house and I went with several friends on a night excursion without regard to my health and more than likely caught a cold, causing me to be in bed for 5 weeks, which reminded me of an old saying:  Weeds don’t disappear (Only the good die young), but my health has been restored, so that I am able to be back in the store since day before yesterday. Well, dear Amalie, I want to thank you for the favor you have done and for the good wishes I say thank you and will now close with best wishes to your dear parents and siblings and wishing you luck,

Your Cousin
