Photograph of Beth Israel Synagogue in a Religious
Landmarks calendar for the year 1985. Written on bottom: "A fire of
mysterious origin gutted the interior of this building immediately after
its completion in 1916. As soon as the ashes had cooled, rebuilding
began, and was completed in 1924. When this photograph was taken, on
April 25, 1969, the synagogue had fallen victim to 'urban renewal' and
was being demolished. The new synagogue was erected on Murdock Avenue." |
