Includes several items about Champion Paper:

"This Cornfield is Now Champion's Woodyard"  a small article about a photograph made in 1906 about what was once a small cornfield and a modest white house is now a mammoth woodyard for Champion Paper and Fibre Company.

"90-Year-Old Canton Man Recalls Early Days of That Section of County"  Bob Justice, born in 1859, recalls life in Pigeon River - what later became the woodyard of Champion Paper and Fibre Company.  For some time there was no bridge to cross the river and pedestrians would have to ride in an unsafe canoe to get across while the horses, wagons and cattle had to ford ahead to the other side.  Many times the farmers would wait for the river to freeze so that they could take their cattle, turkeys and hogs across the solid ice to market.  An iron bridge was later built.  Soon the area became more populated and the residents thought the name "Pigeon River" too backwards for the area and renamed it "Canton" after the Wrought Iron Bridge Company of Canton, Ohio.  In 1905 The Champion Paper and Fibre Company came to Canton and changed the sleepy little village to a thriving business bringing better church and school facilities and higher wages for the men in the area.
