Re: Asheville Downtown Commercial Complex
Dear John:
When I received your letter of January 23,1981, I was quite concerned about your impression of estimates previously given by City representatives regarding demolition, relocation, and acquisition, and your use of the terms "Disturbing," "astonishing," " so great an error," "critical," "financially feasible program is less feasible due to the substantially inaccurate information given to us by the City with respect to acquisition cost of the site," "significant difference," "discrepancies," "Strouse Greenberg shares this concern," "dramatic change," "deserving your immediate review," and "serious one."
I sent your letter to Walter Gladding, Verl Emrick, Jim Hunter, and Pete Gold and their responses indicate that the figure of $13,345,000 was a "ball park" figure and should have been treated as such. On January 26, 1981, you were supplied with a figure of $16,379,750 as being an accurate figure for financial planning.
Based on my findings in you accusation, I find that the tone and content of your letter is completely out of order.
