Asheville City Council

Dear Asheville Residents:

The adoption of the 2010 Asheville City Plan is an exciting event. Presented in this document is a plan for guiding the future growth and development of our city.

On behalf of the Asheville City Council I would like to thank the members of the "Alternatives for Asheville" Committee for the hard work and many hours which they put into the completion of this Plan. I would also like to thank the citizens of Asheville for the interest in and contributions to this community-wide effort.

With the adoption of this plan we as a community are declaring a renewed commitment to the future. As we move toward the year 2010 let us work together to keep Asheville a vibrant and progressive city.

Very truly yours,

Office of City Manager

To The Citizens of Asheville:

I am pleased to present to you the 2010 Asheville City Plan. This Plan is intended to serve as a comprehensive policy guide for the development of the City over the next twenty-five years.

The 2010 Asheville City Plan presents a common agenda for our community, an agenda developed over the past two years with input form thousands of area residents. The plan presents an exciting vision of what our City is, and can be, with the development of a vital Downtown, the provision of efficient and high quality public services, the protection of our unique environmental setting, the stimulation of a healthy and vibrant economy, and the preservation of Asheville's exceptional quality of residential life.

To realize these goals, the community must now commit to the implementation of the strategies presented in the Plan. Several of these strategies are already being addressed by City Council and staff. With this plan as a guide, we can continue to move forward to address the issues confronting our community and to make Asheville a better place to live.

Sincerely,

Douglas O. Bean
City Manager
