2 33 Edgar M. Lyda to Miss Pearl Anderson, 12/19/1927

Written in reply to Miss Anderson's letter of 13 December 1927.

"Dear Miss Anderson:
Your charming circular of recent date intrigued me to the point of - well, answering, at least.  I am, indeed glad that you considered it necessary to write the second letter, for I don't believe I ever saw the first.
That you have chosen to address me as friend is complimentary to a degree, so much so, in fact, that I hesitate to say 'no' for that would entail elimination from your mailing list; and yet, if I should say 'yes' something seems to whisper to me that the result would be the same - so far as notes are concerned.
I am well aware that ladies - that is, most of them - do not enjoy returning money. Indeed, men aren't very different in that respect, for note, please, how I quibble over a dollar.
As for mental stimulation well, really , nothing a dollar could purchase would supply quite as much mental stimulation, as your clever letter.
Your offer of a free pamphlet is very enticing, but then you have called me indifferent and even what you call your 'pretty long letter' is not quite long enough to erase that 'hurt' . . ."
