Biography

J. Alfred Miller was the president of Miller Printing Company.  His father had founded the company, and in 1930 Miller took over.

During his time as president of the Miller Printing Company Alfred was heavily involved in civic activities.  He was director of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Asheville Redevelopment Commission, and from 1958 to 1963 he was on the board of Trustees for Asheville-Biltmore College and received the Chancellor’s Medallion in 1990.  Miller was also active in the Blue Ridge Parkway Association, Northwestern Bank, Greater Asheville Council, First Presbyterian Church Board of Deacons, Country Club of Asheville, Printing Industries of the Carolinas, American Business Club, and was on the Board of Trustees at Montreat College, becoming a Trustee Emeritus in 1995.

In 1971 Miller resigned from his presidency of Miller Printing, and it later was sold to become Daniels Graphics.  On November 29, 2003 J. Alfred Miller died and left a scholarship trust arrangement to be split between the institution of UNC Asheville and Montreat for the students from Buncombe, Henderson, or Madison Counties.
