Biography Seth Perkinson is best known to Asheville as the creator of the Clean Life Club [also known to YMCA as the Good Life Club], an organization with the purpose of helping underprivileged boys live a clean life both physically and spiritually. The club remained strong throughout the Depression and well after World War II, during which time it branched out into several brother organizations such as the Tourist Knot Hole Gang, Camp Powhatan, and the Civic Club Baseball League. Seth and his wife Lela Y. Perkinson  had six children: Mildred Weaver [whose photograph is included in the Ewart B. Ball Collection]; Louise P. Ijams of Memphis, TN ; Katherine P. Lyda of Asheville [who married Edgar W. Lyda] ; Seth Perkinson Jr. of Lake Lure, NC ; Mildred P. Young of Asheville ; and Dorothy P. Jolliff Kres of Cape Coral, FL. Seth's granddaughter, Louise Lyda Sallstrom, and Seth Perkinson's son, Seth Perkinson, Jr., have completed a historical novel based on Seth senior's work with the boys in the YMCA and the Clean Club.
