“Swannanoa” was at one time “Cooper’s.” Biltmore was first called “Best” after the man who bought the Western North Carolina Railroad. When George W. Vanderbilt acquired al of the property in the village, he changed the name to “Biltmore.” Prior to the coming of the Champion Paper and Fibre Company the present “Canton” was known as Pigeon River” or “The Forks of the Pigeon.” The present Arden was called “Shufordsville.” |
