Statement on Writing "My writing seems to find its expression in nostalgia. My personal childhood experiences and the setting of a small Southern town combine with a sense of the inevitable loss of that way of life. I feed very close to m roots when I'm working, as if the writing itself, although not autobiographical, is taking me back in time and is revealing some of the complexities of what seems to be me back in time and is revealing some of the complexities of what seems to be a simple agrarian way of life.

What writer must remember is how a particular moment felt. In that way, we rely on our pasts and on our sense of touch, sight, sound, taste. By recalling what moments felt like, we can use these feelings again and again to conjure up what a character feels, even when the catalyst for the character's response isn't like the experience we had ourselves."
