| Statement on Writing | |||
| Biography | Born in Whitesburg, Kentucky on 3 May 1922, Harry Caudill devoted his career to serving the community of rural Appalachia. As a young man, Caudill left his native state for service in World War II. Returning, he graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Kentucky. Caudill eventually served three terms as a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives. His non-fiction writing reflects Caudill's vehement opposition to strip mining, as well as his advocacy for education and environmental responsibility. In his later years, Caudill returned to the University of Kentucky as a professor of history and Appalachian studies. He died on 29 November 1990. | ||
