| Biography |
Born in Canton, North Carolina in 1936, Fred Chappell studied at Duke University, earning both a BA and MA. For the forty years between 1964 and his retirement in 2004, Chappell taught literature and creative writing and UNC-Greensboro. In a literary career spanning those four decades, Chappell published numerous works of fiction, poetry, and criticism. He has been awarded a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Prix de Meilleur des Lettres Etrangeres from the French Academy, and the T.S. Eliot Prize. |
