Statement on writing
Biography

Denise Giardina was born in the mountains of West Virginia, and although her fiction has traveled from the coal mines of her home to Medieval England and beyond, she has made a life for herself in her home state.  Active in many levels of the community, Giardina is an ordained Episcopal deacon, has worked as a congressional aide, and ran for governor of West Virginia in 2000.  Like the best historical novelists, Giardina’s writing often employs historical events (the reign of Henry V, for instance, or the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer) to illustrate contemporary ethical and political ideas.
