| Statement on writing |
"One is called to art
as a priest is called to the Church. It is a total devotion.
One must master a craft as one confirms himself with ritual.
These, fortunately, are the same." |
| Biography |
Robert Hazel was born
in Indiana in 1921, but spent much of his adult life in North Carolina
and Kentucky, where he, at the University of Kentucky, taught English
Literature and Creative Writing to Wendell Berry, among others. He
published three novels before his death, but is perhaps better known for
his poetry volumes. After his retirement, Hazel relocated to
Eustis, Florida, where he died on July 19, 1993. |
