Description A collection of fragments and single items removed from original early serials publications and ephemeral publications often used for travel and tourism promotion in western North Carolina and the surrounding region. Some illustrations from Harper's Magazine, Appleton's and other early periodicals have been hand-colored by unknown individuals, but were most likely the result of intervention by the seller of the material.  Maps of coastal North Carolina and also Civil War maps are also included in the eclectic body of material. The illustrations and photographs capture some of the visual history of the most visited and familiar of western North Carolina's landmarks and include such well-known illustrators as Henry Fenn, Sol Eytinge, Mary L. Stone, Wordsworth Thompson, and others.
