Estelle Marder begins her oral history with a detailed description of her family as they were when they moved from New York City to Asheville. The Asheville Jewish Community Center's role for the city is addressed. She speaks extensively about who and what she remembers from the Jewish community: families, relations, friendships, organizations, activities. Ms. Marder recalls very specifically how the whole web of Jewish people in Asheville were connected. |

Biography |
Estelle Marder moved to Asheville with her family and her brother-in-law's family in the summer of 1939 from New York City. Immediately upon their arrival they joined the temple. She became a very active member of not just the Jewish community, but the whole of Asheville. |
