Biography |
Wayne T. Caldwell is a native of
Asheville born in 1948. He attended Enka High School in Buncombe County, North
Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree at University of North
Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1969. He completed his masters at Appalachian State
University in 1970 and his PhD at Duke University in Durham in 1973. Wayne
taught at the collegiate level in both North Carolina Central University
and Union College in Schenectady, New York from 1973-1976.
Wayne is married to Mary Long Caldwell. Mary's father and mother, Ray and Sarah, purchased 25 Broadway, the Sluder Furniture building, in the 60's. Wayne and his sister-in-law, Katheryn, own and manage the Sluder Furniture Company and Ambiance Interiors, 27 and 29 Broadway. Wayne and Mary have two sons, James and John. In addition to providing valuable historical information about 25 Broadway, Wayne's wife, Mary, acquired a suitcase of Solon Bryan through an auction. The suitcase contained many artifacts of Solon Bryan., minister and Director of the Piedmont Bureau and coordinator of the Asheville Chautauqua. |
