Biography |
Dr. Lynch, the son of a farmer, grew up in Fairview, NC. With a high school diploma, he
entered medical school in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated at the age of 22. After
practicing a few years in Asheville, he returned to Baltimore to study orthopedics. He
served in World War I at Camp Greenleaf in fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Dr. Lynch and his wife, a nurse, ran a small hospital in Brevard for several years, but during the Depression, they were not able to keep it going. He continued in private practice until the late thirties. After getting a degree in public health from Chapel Hill, he served as Transylvania Health Officer for four years. The shortage of doctors in Brevard led Dr. Lynch to return to private practice, and he continued to practice medicine into his eighties. |
