Description

Abstract: Buchanan discusses life in Asheville during the Depression, when he was a child.  He describes his early education, walking to school, living without electricity, and hunting to provide food for the family.  He discusses his experience in the Army, as well as various other jobs he has held.  He talks about his children and grandchildren.

Biography

Buchanan was born in Barnardsville, NC, and spent his life there and in Asheville.  He quit school in the sixth grade, earning his GED later when he was drafted  into the Army.  After his service in the army, he had various jobs, working for the city, at a construction company, a bakery, an electrical company, etc.  He has five children and two grandchildren.
