BIOGRAPHY: Provided by William Wayne Metcalf, Jr.
"Dad was from Mars Hill. He lied about his age so he could join. He was only sixteen. He was post of the Philippine Liberation and turned seventeen during the Philippine campaign. He was on Okinawa when he turned eighteen. He was proud to have served his country. These pictures were sent to Myrtle, his older sister. His mother had died when he was thirteen. Aunt Myrtle helped take care of Dad until he went into the Navy. She gave these pictures to me after Dad died in 1974." William Wayne Metcalf, Jr. |
