On plastic sleeve: "The famous Grove 'automobile train' was led by one of his three Packard trucks pulling fifteen wagons of rocks containing more than forty tons of boulders. Page 9"
On back of photograph: "Grove Park Inn Construction -The granite boulders were hauled to the site by Packard-engine-powered trucks pulling and guiding 15 wagons at a time. On each trip, more than 40 tons of granite, cement, rock and tile were transported along the winding mountain roads to the construction area."

On plastic sleeve: "Crates of red clay tile line the ramp leading to the south wing in the spring of 1913, as workmen weave a web of steel rod in preparation for the concrete roof. Page 13"

On plastic sleeve: "Italian stonemasons, some of whom had worked on the Biltmore mansion, apply the stonework to the interior west wall of the Great Hall. The north fireplace would later be built in the area in the upper right of this photograph. Page 14"

On plastic sleeve: "Asheville photographer John Robinson crawled out onto the partially completed north wing on February 28, 1913, to capture carpenters building the forms for the concrete roof. Page 12."

On plastic sleeve: "Each of the concrete roofs over the Main Inn were poured continuously to avoid any unnecessary seams. Large lights were installed to aid the men working at night on the roof."

On back of photograph: "Grove Park Inn construction: The construction scene was like a circus, with 450 mules and 750 men hauling the great boulders in from Sunset Mountain, many weighing from 3 to 5 tons each. They poured cement 24 hours a day, using carbon lights at night. Circus tents were provided where the men could sleep, along with a huge mess tent for meals. The men were paid $1.00 a day for working around the clock and completed the inn in only 11 months and 27 days."
