                               Thursday, December 30, 1897

"Got up early this morning & walked up the railroad to Panther's saw mill & Melrose Falls. Took several photos at the falls. At noon I went up above Melrose station & took a view taking in the train climbing the steep grade with two engines. I got dinner at a house up there. Wore my new shoes to break them in. It is very moderate weather."
