Biography

Arland L. MacKinney (Sr.) received a B.S. from Cornell University in 1925; and received a Master of Forestry from the Yale School of Forestry in 1927.  He entered the U.S. Forest Service July 1925, and was stationed at the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station, Amherst, Mass., July 1, 1925 - February 15, 1926, and at Southern Forest Experiment Station, Starke, Fla., February-September, 1926.  He received a civil service appointment as junior forester July, 1927, at the Appalachian Forest Experiment Station, Asheville, N.C.; and advanced to the position of silviculturist at this station where he specialized in forest management research; in 1937 he was promoted to senior silviculturist in charge of forest management research at Southern Forest Experiment Station, New Orleans; He was author of a number of technical articles published in forestry journals and government bulletins and a member [of the] Society of American Foresters.  He died in a fishing accident on July 4, 1938.
