{Mr. Mattoon was the second supervisor of Pisgah National Forest.  He was supervisor when the Middle Creek RNA was set-aside in the early 1930s.  Copies of forms concerning Middle Creek were obtained from Henry McNab at the Bent Creek Research Station.  They were signed by Mr. Mattoon.}

Mattoon, who served with the 20^th Engineers in France and was a member of Acquisitions in 1917, has been given a temporary appointment and will be stationed on the Pisgah group of Purchase Areas.  Mr. Mattoon has specialized in logging and mill work”.}
