| Description |
A doctor's bag containing implements, medicines, and items required for a
general practitioner.
The Doctor's Bag was a working tool and it is remarkable that many of these general service kits like one in the D. H. Ramsey Library Special Collections, have survived relatively intact. The doctor's bag in the Ramsey collection seems to have served a multiple-purpose as a tool bag for dentistry, general medicine and also, apparently for animal medicine. The owner of the bag, Dr. Joseph E. Osborne and the contents of the bag have been evaluated and described in a paper, "The Doctor's Bag" prepared by Dona Barnett, for her US History class at UNCA in the Spring of 2003. The paper captures the essence of the family practitioner and the era in which he practiced medicine. |
