Background Immaculata School is a private catholic school from grades pre-K up to 8th grade. There are around 200 students that attend school there. Before now the school kept all of the children's information on 8 x 10 cards. They also kept information in an excel spreadsheet. These systems lead to problems with losing information about children, sometimes causing conflicts in emergency situations. Immaculata needed a system where they could bring up any child's information in a short period of time. They needed an application that would be easy to update from year to year and also user friendly. Project Description Immaculata requested an application that would keep information about each parent of every child including addresses for parents who have different addresses that their child. The application would also need to keep track of if the child is catholic or not, the names and ages of any siblings that the child may have, and also the current grade the child is in. The application needed to have an area for attendance. This meant that there needed to be an ability to keep track of any absences, anytime the child was tardy, and anytime the child only spent half a day at school. The user needed to be able to update the attendance on a daily basis and enter a date that corresponded to each time the child was absent, tardy, or spent only a half of a day at school. The application allows the ability to add, delete and update information about each child. In the future the user has requested a mail application. Conclusion This project has taught me a tremendous amount of information. Getting first hand experience in a real world situation has taught me a lot about how to deal with the user and why it is so important to follow the steps of system analysis and design. I found that it is easy to think that things can be done more quickly that what is really possible. Doing all aspects of this project taught me how to be more understanding of others while working in groups. Not all areas are as easy as they seem. |
