Description: Snakey is to be an open-source snake game similar to those of the titles "Znake", "Gnibbles", and "Nibbles". (There are others as well, but too many to list them all.) It is meant to be able to be run as either a Java Applet or a Java ?stand-alone? program. The purpose of the game is to move around eating pieces of food. As you eat the food you grow of shrink and gain points. The object is to gain as many points as possible before you die. You die when you run into a wall, barrier, or yourself. (Barriers are to be added in a later version.)

Purpose: The game was chosen when I discovered Gnibbles on a Linux machine that I found fun to play when my brain got stuck while programming. I searched for a freely available version to run under Windows XP, but I could find none that suited my desire. Therefore I decided to design my own. The purpose for designing Snakey not merely to have a game to play, but it is a learning process as I discover new techniques every time I add, modify, or even test-play the game.

Conclusion: The design and implementation of Snakey has been an invaluable experience. It has taught me much about the importance of design as well as implementation techniques. Snakey will be an ongoing process an in the future will provide functionality for things such as levels, game-saving capabilities, and 3-D graphics.
