Background

The goal of this project was to create a dynamic database-driven website for a real estate company called Remax Mountain Properties. The company was created less than a year ago, two hours west of Asheville in Murphy North Carolina by a man named David Ritz. He did not have a web presence at the time and because of his past experiences with an ordinary static website, he strongly suggested building a dynamic site. Because much of Remax's business comes from customers in other states who are deciding to relocate to Murphy, having a website with all of their property listings on it is a very valuable asset.

Description

The finished site displays a large amount of information about Remax including, agent information, area information, general information about the company, and most importantly, the property listings. The site also allows the employees to add, edit and delete all of their property listings. They no longer have to wait for a webmaster to make the changes to their site, because all they have to do is log into their Data Entry section and any change they make is instantly reflected on the site. This not only gives the customers a more valuable resource when looking for property to buy, but also allows Remax more control over what information they are displaying on the web. The URL for the site is http://www.CoolMtns.com .

Conclusion

This project gave me the chance to apply the knowledge I have gained from both of my majors (MMAS and CSCI) and it allowed me to build on my database design and ASP programming skills. I encountered many problems throughout the project (both expected and unforseen), but I feel that it gave me a good sense of what is expected when working with a real-world client in the future. I learned many lessons from taking a project of this magnitude from beginning to completion. I am confident that what I learned will help me when I begin work and become involved with projects like this on a daily basis.
