Dean of the Faculty / Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Historically significant official papers of the Deans of the Faculty of Asheville-Biltmore College, primarily from 1963 until the creation of UNC Asheville in 1969.
In 1969, when Asheville-Biltmore College became the University of North Carolina at Asheville, the position of Dean of the Faculty was carried over to the new university. This archive holds the papers of Roy Riggs, Dean of UNC Asheville from the creation of the university in 1969, until 1971, when the dean position was superceded by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, a position also held by Riggs.
In 1971 the role of dean of the faculty was replaced by the new postion of Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, and Roy Riggs became the first Vice Chancellor, a position he held until his retirement in 1978.
Dr. Laurence A. Dorr was Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UNC Ashville between July 1, 1978, and June 30, 1986 when he left the role to become a full-time philosophy professor at UNCA.
Following the resignation of Laurence Dorr, the Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Rackham, Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs from July 1, 1986 to June 30, 1986. Materials from Dr. Rackham's role as chair of the department of Literature & Language, a position he held before and after his acting vice chancellorship, are not included in this archive.
Historically significant official papers of Lauren (Larry) Wilson, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs of UNC Asheville from 1987 to 1995. In January 1994, following the resignation of UNCA Chancellor Samuel Schuman, Wilson was appointed as Interim Chancellor. Records from Dr. Wilson's interim chancellorship are in UA3.8.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
This archive holds historically significant official papers of Thomas Cochran, Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs of UNC Asheville, and primarily includes planning/review materials from the 1980's. Records from Dr. Cochran's two periods as Interim Vice Chancellor, and from his tenure as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, are not included.
A collection of historically significant papers prepared, or received, by the Office of Institutional Research. Although these are primarily dated after the creation of UNC Asheville in 1969, there are some earlier materials relating to Asheville-Biltmore College. Certain materials are restricted to researchers.

The majority of the materials are from the mid 1990s through 2001, and are believed to have been used in preparation of the 2002 self study report. The two main themes are, departmental self studies (circa 1986-1999), and annual reports (circa 1998-2001) for departments and programs.

Materials include playbills, posters, box office reports, photographs, schedules, and correspondence. Productions by the Tanglewood Children's Theatre are incorporated.
