Grace Maney, was born in Barnardsville, NC on May 7, 1911.
She died on Februrary 14, 2007 in the Western North Carolina
Baptist Home in Asheville, NC. She was 95 years old.,
Grace was the daughter of the late Dora Ann Burleson Maney
and James Crisley Maney of Barnardsville. She graduated from
Weaver High School in Weaverville in 1928 and in 1930 she
graduated from the Biltmore Junior College in Asheville. She
married John Carmine Bennett, Jr.
From her obituary, we learn that Mrs. Grace Maney Bennett
was a 50 year member of the Women's Auxiliary to the Railway
Mail Association and later in 1950 the Women's Auxiliary to
the National Postal Transport Association. A long-time
member of the Asheville Calvary Baptist Church, she worked
in the church nursery for more than 40 years. and as a
member of the Sand Hill Good Neighbors Club in Candler,
contributed to her local neighborhood.
Grace Maney had two daughters and numerous grandchildren,
many of whom still live in Asheville.
