On plastic sleeve: "Fine rugs imported from France provided  dash of color on the inn's original grey tile floor. The famous eight-foot-tall Roycroft clock can barely be seen against the second column from the right, where for decades it greeted guests coming through the front door. Page 28"

In the early fall of 1913, William Jennings Bryan and his wife (near left) traveled to Asheville to visit the Seelys. Seated in the middle of he rear of the car is Evelyn Grove Seely. The woman on the right has tentatively been identified as Mrs. William Butt-Cody of Atlanta. The driver of the 1913 Packard is Fred L. Seely."

On plastic sleeve: Four hundred of the most distinguished men of the South gathered on Saturday night, July 12, 1913, as Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan (not pictured) marked the official opening of the 156-room hotel by proclaiming it was 'built for the ages.' (S.H. Research Center)."

Another annotation: "Asheville's Grove Park Inn was officially opened on July 12, 1913, with a formal banquet attended by 450 men of city, state, and national distinction. Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan delivered the grand opening address. The local newspaper gave this account: "'a gastronomical and intellectual feast characterized the opening of the magnificent new hostelry, the finest in the world. It stands today as it will stand for all time -a marvel of the builder's art, a triumph of architectural skill."'"
