Index of Patents references the number of unsold Patents January 1,
1876 - July 1, 1905 for 30 Patents, aggregate acreage in the various
Patents as of January 1, 1876, sales of land from January 1, 1876 -
June 30, 1896, number of acres sold 1876 - 1896 ( 80, 217 acres),
and unsold land as of January 1, 1899 - 52, 123 acres. Also included
in this book is the Power of Attorney given to C. Bailus (sic)
Justice of Rutherford County by the heirs of Isaac Bronson et al in
1873, to act as their agent for the management and sale of land in
North Carolina. The Deed specified that: 1): he was limited to sales
of land to actual settlers in pieces or parcels not exceeding 500
acres to the same person at not less than 75 cents/acre; 2): the
heirs retained a 2/3 interest in mines, ores and minerals found in
and upon the land. In 1899 there was a addendum to this deed stating
that: he was to sell all of the remaining land in any amount whether
exceeding 500 acres or not, and whether or not any person or persons
settles on the land; the land was to be sold without reservation of
mineral rights, and he was to sell all reserved mineral rights in
the land "heretofore conveyed by us or our predecessors". The land
was to be sold at not less than 70 cents/acre, and the mineral
rights were to be limited to 25 cents/acre. This document is
typewritten and unsigned. Also contained in this book is a June 13,
1906 estimate of the cash value of the North Carolina property.
Unsold land totaling 32,000 acres - value $117,000; values of
various contracts and mortgages, reserved acreage with mineral
rights, 143,886 acres. Total value $162, 661.09. Also contains
ledger pages of sold and unsold land 1876 - 1899.
