Letter from F. Bronson, Agent, to T.B. Justice, Rutherfordton,
North Carolina dated April 24, 1855. The letter is in response to an
inquiry from T.B. Justice and authorizes the leasing and mining of
the Davis Mine in Union County. The letter states that the Lease
conditions are for three years and that the tenant must pay for
equipment and pay one-eighth of the gross proceeds.

Dr [Dear] Sir
I have rec [received] your letter of the 14 [Instau...?] and after
conferring with Mr McIntyre, I have concluded to say in reply to
your inquiry as to the leasing of the Davis mine in union Co, that
we would be willing to lease that mine for the term of three years
on condition that the tenant will put up an Engine at his own
escpense [sic] of sufficient power to drain the mine, and shall work
the mine constantly in a workmanlike and [m...like?] manner and
shall pay to the Proprietors for the use of the mine, one eighth of
the gross proceeds[.] The neglect to put up the Engine within 4
months from the date of the lease or the neglect to work the mine
for the period of 30 days shall, at any time thereafter [as the?]
option of the Proprietors work a forfeiture of the lease- Suitable
guards to be provided to secure the Proprietors their full share of
1/8th. No trespass to be made on the other lands of the Proprietors
for wood or other [purposes?]-In working the mine the work is to be
done in a [m...?] like manner and the refuse to be properly removed,
so as to give the owners of the land the full benefit of the full
development of the mine. so far as the work proceeds
