This letter is in response to the matters raised in the previous
Item. Smith states that based on the information in the April 23
letter he is inclined that the boundary is the River bank, but
cannot be positive without a library. Also, that one way to get rid
of the current owner is to ignore him. Another is to bring suit.
Concerning the second matter the contract and the survey by William
M. Justice, neither calls for the River ____. Signed.

Dear Sir,
Your letter formed me absorbed in the trial of Two Capitol
Cases but I [lay?] them down at 11 o clock P.M. to answer your
inquiry. As I understand your [Jones?] did starts at a poplar on
bank of River & runs off from and around back to a stake on the
north Bank of River, then [above?] the River to the beginning. The
course of the closing line will be a straight line to [...ing?] or
