Walnut Grove, Gran(?) River, August...
Dear Sir,

We received your letters the one from Lincolnton in a few days the other dated July the 10th at Philadelphia August 5th, which you may expect gives us a deal of satisfaction to hear that arrived safe to the land of your nativity. Which no doubt gave you comfort after so long and fatiguing a journey. Lonesome we may suppose for we do not hear that you had any company in all your travels except your poore Dum [sic] quadruped. Which you say held out the journey very well, which we all had our doubts very much not but what your mare is a very good horse to her size and that's a great thing in Journeying a good horse is half there. Balte[?], you may rely on it.
