Scope and Contents

Materials related to the Model Cities Program undertaken in Asheville, N.C. in the 1960's and 1970’s as result of the Federal initiative to “improve the quality of urban life” in America. In addition to materials directly related to the Program, the collection also includes items covering other initiatives to improve the welfare and education of residents, such as the Carolina Fund launched by NC governor Terry Sanford
